Division Street, Here We Come!

Come check out our new PDX shop at 3402 SE Division St.
Open from 10am to 7pm, 7 days a week

WE'RE OPEN!

June 13, 2024

It’s been a great first week on Division Street, and while there are still a few things to button up we gotta say, our new home is looking VERY CUTE. This is thanks in large part to the creativity, enthusiasm and general “get ‘er done” ‘tude of Jesse Marvin, who’s collaborated with us on the vision of this project since day 1. Case in point: our new checkout counter. Jesse was able to take the bones of our old vermouth bar (shout out to Colin at Anderson Woodworks for making the original!) and transform it into an entirely new thing that not only physically works better for both our staff and customers, but also looks like it’s been in the space for 100 years. Jesse’s vision allowed us to save a beloved thing from our old location, avoid trashing perfectly usable materials, and create something truly beautiful that, ahem, really ties the room together.

OPENING THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 8TH!!!

June 6, 2024

It’s been a labor of love, but we’ve successfully packed, stacked, moved and grooved EVERYTHING (including ELEVEN commercial refrigeration units🫠) into our brand new, 114-year-old storefront on SE Division St!

We’re still putting the finishing touches on the space, but we gotta say: thanks in large part to our tireless team, the shop looks REAL CUTE and we are getting very excited to share it with you! We’ll likely continue to tweak the set up over the next few weeks, but starting THIS SATURDAY, June 8th, we’ll be open every day from 10am to 7pm. We can’t wait to see you!

MOVING MAYHEM & New Backroom Floors

May 30, 2024

Hello and welcome to our wild week of MOVING! It’s honestly going better than we thought (😅) and thanks to our amazing crew, we’re right on track to open NEXT SATURDAY, June 8th, at 10am. So let’s get to the nitty gritty, as things look a bit different this week and next:

  • Our PDX shop is currently CLOSED
  • McMinnville is OPEN and thriving! Did you hear that there’s an ice cream truck parked in front of the shop Tues-Sun from 12:30 to 7 ALL SUMMER?! Get down there, it’s cute.
  • Our online shop is also OPEN, BUT due to the move, shipping times will be delayed by about a week.

That about covers it! Moving is definitely not the most fun thing in the world, but we’re SO EXCITED about our new space! Just yesterday, we finished up the second phase of our big flooring renovation (those beautiful fir floors only cover about 75% of the space) and it’s looking SO GOOD!

Paint is Done and Looking Fresh

As Jesse said "It looks like a freakin' gallery in here!".

We're getting really excited.

Our Secret Weapon: Jesse Marvin

May 16, 2024

In the quest for late night musical adventures and shared love of a mutual friend and Portland Legend, Nathan Junior, Jess Marvin met our Noah in the mid 90’s. Since then, he’s been in Noah’s circle and on the Portland scene, swashbuckling around town, swinging hammers, pounding nails, and peppering anyone who will listen with a colorful story, tall tail, or legendary fable. Jesse, also known as “Marv” (fun fact: is married to a Jesse!), spent a decade at local coffee giant, Stumptown, helping them grow their operation and retail footprint across the country. When he’s not on the construction site, he’s nursing a mean case of tennis elbow and working on birdhouses and custom benches, soon to be released on instagram at @hey.goodbuddy. We’ll hopefully have a few in stock at the new location! Go check him out!!!

Hidden Treasures in the Wall

May 9, 2024

Last week, during an afternoon routine of drywall patching over at our new spot on Division, we opened up a wall and discovered…. (any guesses?!) A hidden trove of vintage beer cans, whiskey bottles, and newspapers dated to 1936! That certainly wasn’t on our Bingo card, but what a cool surprise! Did you know Rainier Beer used to be brewed in San Francisco? Us either!

Found in the wall

A newspaper from July 3 1936 called The Enterprise

This includes a list of 14 “don’ts” for a happy forth of July

Rainer cans

Scotch, Whiskey Bourbon and Gin bottles

Del Monte tomato Juice can

A pack of Old Gold cigarettes

Acme/Ild Tankard and Hop Gold beer

Velvet pipe and cigarette tobacco

Restoring the Floors

May 2, 2024

Turning an old print shop into a cute lil’ corner grocery is a lot of work, but when we saw these floors we knew we were doing the right thing. They’ve been covered under layers of carpet, vinyl, and industrial adhesive for over 70 years, but look at ‘em now: they’re positively glowing!

April 18, 2024

We’ll just come right out and say it:

WE'RE MOVING OUR PORTLAND SHOP!

It’s a big change, but we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take over the incredible space at 3402 SE Division, formerly Anders Printing and right next door to our BFFs Lauretta Jean’s!

These past 5 years on Couch Street have been incredible–and we’re going to miss our beloved inner east side community–but we’re excited to explore the exotic lands of SE Portland. The building that will be our new home is pretty special. It was built over 100 years ago and in its first incarnation it was the neighborhood general store (that’s it in the photo above, when it was known as the ‘Jos T. Harris Grocery’!); we’re thrilled to be returning this historic building back to its original intended use.

Of course our pals Fulamingo are coming with us, so you can expect the same amazing assortment of Japanese snacks, pantry ingredients, and sake as we’ve always had. Same goes for our homewares section, featuring handmade and vintage goods from our friends Davis Co. and HeyDay, plus seeds, ‘zines, and other great stuff from the Culinary Breeding Network.

The new space offers some other perks: outside seating, room for more local produce and space for our expanding deli program (have you tried our new sandwiches?) Did we mention the original fir floors?! It’s truly dreamy, and if the stars align we’ll be completely moved in and open for business on June 1st. Watch this space for more details as we get closer to that date… we’ve got some fun stuff planned ahead of the move!

And, as always, we owe a HUGE thank you to all of you. Your continued support has seen us through a wild half-decade, and we’re more excited than ever for the coming years.
