Seiji Nanbu is a serious food and drink fanatic who parlayed his gustatory enthusiasm into a career, producing events from Portland to Tokyo and landing pro writing and photography gigs for publications like Eater and Sprudge. In addition to working behind the scenes to elevate the producers he loves, the life-long Oregonian is a genial fixture of Portland pop-up culture, appearing at seemingly every opening and product launch in the Rose City with his camera in hand and an encouraging word for everyone.
He’s gained an enthusiastic following on social media for his beautiful photos documenting his never-ending exploration of coffee, cocktails, and food, and after working as a full-time barista for the last 6 years, he’s recently stepped into the limelight with his very own cafe in NW Portland. A partnership with local restaurant powerhouse Repúblia & Co., Electrica is an effort to highlight two important aspects of Seiji’s heritage by featuring Mexican coffee alongside Japanese tea. Innovative, expertly crafted beverages (like their cult favorite signature drink, a latte made with miso and caramel) are paired with pastries from “panaderia Americana” Matutina and Japanese sweets experts Yume Confections, once again confirming Portland’s place among the best culinary cities in the US.
