Jim’s sister lived in Stuttgart in the 1970s, and she’d bring home bags of Ritter Sport, the southern German town’s homegrown candy since 1912. He was thrilled when the square chocolate bars appeared in Oregon stores decades later. The company works with farmers in Nicaragua to grow cocoa sustainably, and built its own power plant to utilize the heat from making chocolate to produce electricity. This dark chocolate with hazelnuts is one of our favorites.
