Founder Fatou Ouattara moved to Portland from the Cote d'Ivoire at 23 to pursue a degree, with hopes of one day becoming a doctor or accountant. Luckily for us, she missed the food of her homeland so much she decided to instead open Akadi, a tiny, pan-West African restaurant not far from Wellspent HQ. Since 2017, Fatou has cultivated a devoted following of diners eager to experience the assertively spiced, layered flavors of classic West African stews, jollof, and attiek poisson braise, the national dish of the Cote d'Ivoire. When the restaurant temporarily shuttered in 2020, Fatou turned her attention to making her addictive sauces available to a wider audience, and we are so glad she did. Earthy, complex, and nuanced, Akadi's sauces can be used as a marinade, dipping sauce, condiment or even as part of salad dressing. We particularly love it with fried fish, but we'll be using this on everything from roasted veggies to hearty soups and grilled meats, and everywhere in between. Vegan and Gluten Free.
