Zirca Lukin has always been into food, but like many of us, the pandemic really focused her attention. Looking for something to bring more joy and sweetness into her own life and the lives of her community, she started baking with abandon, focusing on Jewish food traditions from around the world. She emerged with Babkush, a pop-up dedicated to seasonal and holiday treats that gives proceeds to organizations working for peace across the world (currently, she’s donating to We Are Not Numbers). She’ll be popping up at our Portland shop with some of the best babka we’ve ever had (in three flavors: chocolate, chocolate-halva and cinnamon-walnut), plus rich chocolate rugelach and some decidedly non-traditional GF amaretti in a variety of flavors including vanilla-matcha, hazelnut with homemade nutella, plum-ginger and halva-date. Babka will be available whole or by the slice, and we’re working up a special chai drink in collaboration with One Stripe to serve alongside. Come through on 11/16 from 10am-1pm to get the goods!
