G.R.O.T.O. stands for Golden River of a Thousand Orchards, and this blend was created while thinking about the future of California’s historic dry-farmed orchards. There are still thousands of acres of old dry-farmed orchards around the western US and GROTO is an intentional effort to create a sustainable cider blend made exclusively from old orchards that demand very little to no resources. The most abundant varietals of these old orchards are Gravenstein (harvested in early August), Jonathans (harvested in early September) and Romes (harvested in October); Bardos has blended them in an effort to responsibly scale their production with the goal of creating a larger appreciation for ciders made from dry-farmed fruit.
