Makgeolli is a traditional Korean beverage of fermented rice dating back to the 10th century. Fizzy, cloudy, and lightly sweet, it is similar in flavor to unfiltered sake, though it’s much lower in alcohol (6% abv) and its production method differs considerably. Floral, creamy and refreshing, makgeolli obviously pairs well with classic Korean dishes, but also works alongside any number of spicy, fermented, or pickled foods.
