Rock Pop NaturelProduced by Chateau DeluxeNewberg - Oregon
A tiny, one-man operation based in Oregon's famed Willamette Valley, the cheekily-named Chateau Deluxe makes the kind of wine owner Kyle Lattimer likes to drink himself, namely crisp, young whites and playful, often-experimental sparklers. "Pop Rock Naturel" is one such experiment, an unexpected combination of Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gamay Noir and skin-contact Chardonnay. The resulting wine is a bubbly, joyful explosion of juicy fruit and candied flower petals on a scaffolding of restrained mineralality. It clocks in at a very friendly 11.5% ABV, and we'll be pairing this with saucy BBQ dishes, spicy chicken wings and crispy pork belly while we wait for the sun to come out and can finally pop a bottle in its rightful environment: with friends on a park blanket under a big tree on a hot day.
