Rome Bruno grew up in Harlem, where he got his first restaurant job washing dishes before moving to San Francisco, then Seattle, and finally the Rose City. He worked his way up in the kitchen, and eventually turned his love of food and infectious personality into writing and recipe developing gigs for Salon, Delish, Food52 and the New York Times. He also hosts multiple cooking shows on YouTube including Childhood Eats, where he lovingly recreates his favorite childhood dishes, and is an enthusiastic presence on Instagram, where he posts under the alias @nappyfriiedchicken.
While relatively new to Portland, Rome’s already putting his stamp on our local food scene. He’s got a regular gig in the kitchen at Montavilla’s beloved Lazy Susan, and the fried chicken pop-up he threw in our parking lot last year sold out in record time (don’t worry, we’re gonna do another one!). He’s been spending the last few months exploring the region’s rich culinary bounty by visiting cranberry farmers, cheesemongers, winemakers, and other local purveyors of deliciousness, and we’re thrilled to have him as a member of the extended Wellspent Family.
